Overview

On June 8, 2004, National Geographic Society's Washington, DC, awards Rinjani National Park as The World Legacy for Destination Stewardship category. Mount Rinjani is located on the island of Lombok, Indonesia. Lombok is a small island with an area of approximately 4,725 km². Rinjani has a history as a volcano that has been erupted several times. The 6 km by 8.5 km oval-shaped caldera is filled partially by a crater lake known as Segara Anak. Now, Caldera is becoming a beautiful lake called Lake Segara Anak. Lake segara Anak have an elevation 2.015m above sea level. Take around 18 hours on foot from the village Sembalun Lawang, East Lombok. Segara Anak is a sacred place for the Sasak tribe, the native of Lombok island. In a certain time they go to the lake to worship the gods, while the cure of disease. In addition to the place considered holy, all of the lake is also a source of living. there had batolit below the lake, but many fish can live in the lake, the fish are fish called carper.

Segara Anak Lake

Sasak tribes is the native of Lombok island।They used to climb Mount Rinjani and reach Segara Anak Lake for religion activity, healing disease activity (left side picture), also fishing on the Lake. It's amazing, because this 5.6Miles diametre of caldera still have volcano activity. This lake located 2.000 m above sea level, 15 hours walking from Sembalun basecamp. Eventhough the batolit still active, Segara Anak Lake contains a lot of fish, called carper. Sasak people like to fishing for a weeks. The go down to Sembalun bring a lot of fish, sell it to traditional market.
